Composer's Notes: The main section of the piece depicts a tumultuous sea. I tried to mimic the piano style of 19th century Romantic composers like Rachmaninoff or Chopin, and I also tried to feature some more showy vocal techniques like the chromatic scale and dramatic intervals. The middle section shows us a calmer side of the sea, and we are transported to a completely different sound world, more impressionistic in nature. The text is taken from a poem called, “Barnacles”, written by Sid Lanier, 19th century American college professor.
